After the six months is over, I don't know what will happen. I'm sure one of us will still be home with the boys. And I do hope it can be me. But that's a different story and depends on many things (it will be possible at least if my wife gets a job after the training is over or I am able to create a sustainable income while staying at home -- or if we learn how to live without money). But now, we are preparing for the six months first -- that in itself will be a life-changing experience.
I hope the experiments and experiences I will share in the coming months will be useful for others like me as well: regular people with families who want to take control of their time and priorities. (Make sure to subscribe to my RSS feed to stay updated on the adventure!).

Wow that’s really awesome – enjoy the moments!
Thank you, Ross! I’m sure I will :)
Good luck Jarkko! Exciting times ahead. :-)
Thanks, Mark!
Great news, Jarkko!
With our eldest, Jussi stayed at home for 5 months or so and I went to work. With Kaapo hw was home for 2 months in the summer an 1 month this fall, he started work again today actually.
Jussi has really enjoyed staying at home and so has the rest of the family. Money is material. We need it, but going chasing it does not make happy. Family does. And it is suprising ow long a penny streches when necessary. :)
I am also making my plans so that I could have more time at home with the kids. But that’s another story. Right now, all I have to say is: awesome choice, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it and have fun!!
Thanks for the encouragement, Satu! It’s great to hear that Jussi was happy with the choice. And we are actually already having a lot of fun stretching pennies (this is not a joke, it really can be fun ;)). So, I’m really looking forward to it.
Can’t wait to hear more about your plans as well! What I’ve read so far on your blog seems very exciting!
Congrats on the upcoming adventure! Should definitely be an interesting change of pace, but I imagine it will be awesome to boys!
Thanks for the mention as well :)
Thanks, Sean! I hope the boys will like it, but I’m also doing it for myself :)
Let’s see how this turns out, and what kind of adventures I can dream up with the boys…
Jarkko,
That’s fantastic. You are doing EXACTLY what I hope (and am trying to plan for) to do at some point in the future. Right now, my wife stays at home with our three kids and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Sure, that means cutting back on (what we consider unnecessary) things, but in no way do we feel we are depriving ourselves or our kids. In fact, it’s just the opposite.
But as the kids age, I feel an even stronger pull to transform how I/we support the family financially in a way that will enable me to spend more time at home with them AND continue to pursue my path of deep living AND helping others do the same.
Best of luck. Looking forward to hearing more as January rolls around.
Be well,
Bill
Thank you, Bill! It’s great to hear that you have similar plans as well. In fact your version, “spend more time at home with them AND continue to pursue my path of deep living AND helping others do the same” is exactly what I hope to do as well, in the long term — starting from staying at home, and reporting my experiences on this blog, then slowly moving to making it sustainable.
I believe this first six months will be an important time for me in figuring out my own way of doing it… Can’t wait to get started :)
Love your priorities, Jarkko! Let us know how it goes – I love hearing about parenthood from the father’s perspective.
