Great post, once again!

For me, one of the most destructive things to my productivity is instant messaging. Even if there is no one chatting with me, solely the possibility that someone might say something will keep me idling the day away doing nothing in the end. This is the reason why I’ve been trying to quit using instant messengers lately. I still log on sometimes, but only when I know I have no things waiting to be done.

I made a strange observation when I spent two weeks in our summer cottage in June. I was disconnected from the internet and my cell phone had an empty battery. And guess what, my productivity and creativity boosted like crazy! Mentally, I felt less stress, had no sleeping problems and saw the most vivid dreams ever.. I spent half a day completely immersed in drawing our rowing boat and its surroundings on a piece of paper. The two weeks were simply great!

I’m not at all sure if our advanced technology is such a good thing after all. Could it just be, that we as humans are meant to live in a natural environment, rather than inside our dim apartments? I’m starting to believe so. I was genuinely happier without all the tech-gimmicks around me and it felt great to be unreachable by others.

Hey Jetro, great to hear that your stay at the summer house was a good one. It felt almost crazy that there you were, in the middle of the forest, and we didn’t have a way to know how it was going. :)

But you know what, you’re right: the slow life you spent doodling and just sitting there next to the lake is probably exactly what we need. If we weren’t so busy and connected all the time, we would be able to live with less — and be happier at it!
