That Was April, What Next?
It seems that this is your first time to my blog. Welcome! In this blog I will share my ideas on how you can make a living in a way that feels good to you, your family, your environment and everyone around you. If you want to know more about me and this blog, check out my about page. And if you want to stay updated on my new posts, subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for stopping by!
Time is an amazing concept. It flies by no matter what you do or don’t do. You can’t stop it: the clocks keep ticking no matter what you do.
But at the same time it’s also one of the most subjective things in this world. When you measure time as the number of things a person has achieved in his life, It’s as if some people were given double the amount of time - and some would barely have gotten the minimum.
Time also gives you plenty of new beginnings: new year, new month, new week, new day. Every one of them can mark a start for a new, distinct time in your life.
April
In April, I told you that I would be joining Mark Hayward’s money making challenge. Then I started working on it and shared some of my plans.
It’s still early, but I thought that in the spirit of Open Source Entrepreneurship I’d share some of my initial developments and next steps with you. This is also a practice I plan on keeping up in the future months as well, so subscribe to my RSS feed and you’ll never miss an update again!
My affiliate business strategy has two parts to it: affiliate links on this blog and selling affiliate products outside the blog.
As the blog side of things is something I’m much more familiar with, I started my April activities by adding a new product, Todoodlist, to the product catalogue. That was a great decision: with 7 sales in April, it quickly became my all time top seller. Yep, that’s all it takes to become the top seller at my blog.
Which brings me to earnings.
Normally when bloggers share their blog earnings with their readers, they talk about thousands (or hundreds of thousands) of dollars. Not this time. My April earnings from this blog were $49.56
Outside of the blog, I’m still trying to select my first product to promote. So, no news from that front yet.
May
The story continues. April was an interesting month in terms of scratching the surface of the affiliate marketing world, but when it comes to blogging, I think I could have put in a bit more effort. The number of posts just wasn’t high enough.
This month, my plan is to keep working on the affiliate business, but in a way that won’t make me lose the focus I have for this blog: to provide useful information for the creative, entrepreneurial people insanely interested in everything.
During this new month…
- I will do unveil an interesting project that I hope will increase the sales of the four products I promote on this blog. You’ll have to wait for still a few more days, but I promise that you will be the first ones to hear when the pieces start falling in place.
- I will write 12 blog posts, including a new five part series on staying focused.
- I will post an official definition of what it means when someone is insanely interested in everything. If you want to participate, leave your suggestions in the comments
- This blog will turn 1 year old.
- My son will celebrate his first birthday.
- I will see my blog subscriber count climb to 500.
And all the while, I will keep talking with you about all the things happening around here.
Have a great May, and may the time be with you!

A definition of insanely intrested? Being curious comes to my mind.
Good luck with your money making challenge!

Congrats on getting the money-making ball rolling, Jarkko. I’m really pleased that Todoodlist did well for you — thanks for supporting it!

@Bitten: That’s a great video! When I first saw it, I immediately felt a connection with Mr. Godin. I’ll keep it in mind when formulating the definition :)
@Nick: Thanks for the support, and most importantly for writing a product that is helping me achieve my goals!

Hi Jarkko - GREAT start so far!! I have fallen way off target and will be heading back to the “drawing board” in a week or two…
I think we can officially change the name to “The Jarkko Laine Make Money Online Challenge.” Keep up the tremendous work. :)

@Mark: Aww… That’s too nice :) Well, let’s not change the name just yet - the fact that it’s your challenge and not mine makes me work harder, and I like that.
This month started really well (on my scale that is): on the first 3 days I sold one book on each. But now it has slowed down a bit - I guess my Google AdWords aren’t working that well - I’ll have to write a post about it at some point too.
Looking forward to your next actions!

Hi Jarkko - My actions have come to a screeching halt! :(
Working on some large projects around here once again so not much time for online stuff…If I get off the ground again I have been seriously thinking about Online SOCIAL Entrepreneurship. So, instead of generating income for me I would work on raising funds for various humanitarian issues.
Looking forward to watching you keep up the momentum and forward progresion!
