On the Friday morning before Easter at six A.M. our plane left for Costa del Sol, Spain. It was a relaxing week of sun, warmth, singing together with our Church Choir, and away from the online world.

Now, I’m back, and trying to find my place on the blogosphere again.

I think I missed something important in my previous post on plans: If you want to build a balance, you can’t plan your business and life separately.

A balanced business is an integral part of your life, not something extra.

When I founded my business back in October 2006, I had no idea that a year and a half later, my business plan would be to make money through writing. My plan was to write software and then maybe start making games after I had stabilized my software business.

People learn. Plans change. And as long as you are moving forward, I think that’s how it should be.

Yesterday, my wife asked me a simple question. We were making porridge for our son, Oiva, when my wife started wondering how cooling actually works (the food was still too hot and the baby was anxious to get something to eat…).

Balance is a lot about simplifying: deciding what is worth your effort and cutting out what just eats your time and gives nothing in return. But there is only so much you can cut out – you’ve got to do something. That’s why balance is also about finding the time for doing the things you want to do.

In my dreams, I wake up when it’s still dark. I grab a cup of coffee and a fresh bagel and start changing the world. Then, as the sun rises, I put down my keyboard and gently wake up the rest of my family. We spend hours having fun together, but also get some work done. Not too much – just enough to keep the business rolling.
