Insanely Interesting Links: PageRank, Posting Less and Great Blog Posts

It seems that this is your first time to my blog. Welcome! In this blog I will share my ideas on how you can make a living in a way that feels good to you, your family, your environment and everyone around you. If you want to know more about me and this blog, check out my about page. And if you want to stay updated on my new posts, subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for stopping by!

Last week I announced that I would post less frequently from now on until the beginning of next year. This week I wrote three posts plus this one instead of the six posts I have been used to. How did it go?

I have to admit that it was a bit strange not to write a blog post every day. While I was still writing something every day I somehow felt that I was slacking a bit. I guess when you have been blogging daily for almost half a year, dropping the frequency takes some getting used to.

What about you, did you notice any change? Did you miss those two posts that I left out or is this pace good for you?

PageRank updates

If you have been following blogs about blogging this week, you must have noticed that everyone is buzzing about PageRank. PageRank is Google’s way of measuring how important some page on the Internet is and how high they rank that page on their search results. Along with the number of RSS subscribers, it’s one of the most cherished numbers bloggers are following.

This week Google updated the ranks after a long period of not touching to it at all. Many blogs dropped in the ranking, but for me it was the first time that my blog actually got a PageRank. Not that it matters too much, but my PageRank is now four - which surprisingly is the same as that from some of the biggest players in the field, such as Pro Blogger or Copyblogger!

Great blog posts

That’s enough about me, so let’s get to this week’s insanely interesting blog posts:

  1. The top 5 reasons why most team building events are a waste of time: The Chief Happiness Officer writes about an important topic, cultivating competition at the work place. It’s not uncommon at all to hear management say things like “we need to have some friendly competition to get the most out of your creativity”. But as Alexander points out in this post, competition is never a good option when you are trying to build up a good team spirit.
  2. Money for Entrepreneurs: Can You Afford It? In just a few weeks Ittybiz has become one of my favorite blogs. Naomi Dunford knows how to put her words to make us think about our lives and the actions we’re taking. You should read all her posts, but to get started, check out this one about whether you can afford the things you really want or not.
  3. Busy: The New Four Letter Word: Kim from the Escape Adulthood blog writes about a topic we’re all facing these days. It seems that there’s a competition in busyness going on, a competition that is draining us from energy and happiness. Check out what Kim has to say about it.
  4. A new issue of Juoni: This is only interesting to those of you who can read Finnish, but I thought I’d post this link anyway. Juoni is a web based magazine published once a month with a monthly theme. This month’s issue was published this week with the theme “Time”.

There are more links and interesting posts coming up next week, so until then, have a nice weekend and don’t forget to relax!

Hi Jarkko… Thanks for the link love! I checked out Kim’s post about Busyness, which I really loved as well. And don’t even get me started on team building exercises. In fact, I should just click “submit comment” now before I rant for three hours. Thanks again, have a great weekend!

Three posts a week is more than fine (at least compared to my “twice a month” rhythm).

And Juoni sure is worth checking out for all the Finquists out there.

  • Jarkko Says:

Naomi: It’s nice to see that the links that I enjoyed this week also work for you. :)

C2162: That’s good to hear. I guess the majority of the readers didn’t even notice a change - at least the visitor count and the number of RSS subscribers haven’t been affected by the change. Let’s see what will happen in the longer run.

Jarkko, I was busy this week, so I didn’t notice the difference either. But I think that’s in a good way. Your articles are great and very enjoyable. I sometimes only have three days worth of “good stuff” to post, yet I’m posting 5 days a week. So let me know how it works out. I think as long as your putting quality out there the readers will come. :0)

  • Jarkko Says:

Thanks for the encouragement, Shirley! :)

I’ll share my experiences when I know more, but at this point it seems that cutting the number of posts per week was the right thing to do. But it’s still early to say…
