You don’t have to be a rock star to be Insanely Interesting
It seems that this is your first time to my blog. Welcome! In this blog I will share my ideas on how you can make a living in a way that feels good to you, your family, your environment and everyone around you. Sometimes you feel uninteresting when surrounded in a social setting. You become a wallflower.
It doesn’t have to be that way, though. You can be the life of the party, or the life of your small group, or just someone that everyone will remember. Being yourself is the most important thing, even if you feel like people might not like you. If you are positive you will attract positive people and they will like you.
Here are some simple and easy ways to be yourself even in social settings when you are trying to make a good impression.
- Have quirks. Good or bad, they are unique. So you snort when you laugh. Great, now people will remember you as the one with the snort. At least you’ll be remembered as interesting, which is way better than “The one with the snort and her friend. What was his name? I don’t remember. So chocolate cake…”
- Don’t try to make people like you. As much as you want to be liked, it won’t come if you’re constantly trying to please people. It will actually annoy and turn people off instead of growing their affection for you. I know people that still do this and people they meet will pull me aside later and ask “So, what’s with that guy?” The harder you try the more adversely it affects you.
- Give into your passions. Do what you love and people will like you for it. You hunt polar bears on the weekend? Great, people are going to have questions about that for sure. Do you play euchre with your grandma for money? Awesome, that means you care about the elderly and love to take their well-earned social security. Now you’ve got something to talk about.
- Be honest. Don’t put on a facade and pretend you are funny if you’re not. It only makes people wary about you and dislike you when they find you’re not as hilarious as you claim. Being genuine about yourself and what you love will get you farther than anything you make up.
- Have an opinion. Whether you think PETA is stupid or Britney is an amazing musician, it’s your opinion. Stick to it. So what if someone starts arguing with you? One of my favorite lines is “I don’t care what people say, I love _____.” Whatever fills that blank is what you love. No one can deny that and it will give them something to rally behind or shoot down. Either way, they are talking.
- Be content. People are drawn to you when you are content with yourself. They are happy because you are genuine. Being happy by
yourself, with yourself, and having that energy to share with others makes you insanely interesting. - Look at things differently. If you always have a interesting perspective or quip about something, people are going to remember you. Don’t try to have something prepared but let the situation lead you to say something that might open someone’s mind.
- Laugh at yourself. If you do something silly, don’t get embarrassed, just laugh it off. People will be more willing to laugh with you and think you’re silly and fun if you don’t take yourself so seriously.
- Make mistakes. Nobody’s perfect, that’s what makes us interesting. You can be good at things and bad at other things and do some things in a way no one has ever seen. So what? You’re you and that’s why you’re interesting. Plus, mistakes make for the best stories.
So next time you’re meeting someone or in a social setting, make sure to just be you. People will like you and find you insanely interesting.
